Third Day
January 10 2000

  Back to the grindstone.

I'm on a late shift tonight, for the first time. The atmosphere is quite relaxed though as the supervisor went home some time ago.

Its someone saying they can't get email again. In fact there's a lot of them saying they can't get email.
Time to ask for advice! The senior member of staff is sat next to me so I ask them. He's ringing the technicians about it, apparently he's really annoyed about the email not working as he's waiting for this weeks "Porn Pics" to arrive.

He points out the appropriate section in the book:

" At the time of posting there was no reported problem with email. However since then a problem has been identified and technicians have been called. We apologise for this, and this matter has been escalated to the highest level."

This guy next to me is really mad. Apparently he hasn't got a computer at home, so work is the only place he can get this porn-mail.

He's really annoyed as the engineer he spoke to said that it won't be fixed for a couple of days. However he has told us how to sort the problem out individually.

I've been told off. It had to happen. Three days into the job. I was about to post a message to the announce newsgroup, but someone spotted me in time.
Apparently we have to have the permission of 7 levels of management before posting to announce.

Ah well, there's only about 30 people screaming in the newsgroup for their email. I've posted replies (cut and paste) to each person who was complaining about email.

We'll unlock the mail boxes tomorrow. The guy next to me keeps running off to the toilet. Dodgy stomach he says, but he's been looking at that porn so I'm a bit suspicious.
