Diary of a Internet Support Worker.

Chillies, made to make your mouth burn

Second Day
January 9 2000

Guess who did the newsgroups so well yesterday? I've been asked to cover them again.

Apparently the person who usually does them is on the sick. Ah well, straight in there today.
Looks like the evening shift did quite a few answers yesterday, but there's still over 500 postings to get through,
Oh... actually its back to 800 again, the machine was just a little slow at downloading new messages.

I'll never cover that lot today. I'll ask the supervisor. Well what a waste of time that was. She says we're not allowed to ignore any posts, and there is no one to help me get through them.

She gave me a few hints though. The best was was to only look at the first posting in a thread. She also said I should make sure I have plenty of breaks, and relax a bit, so that I don't get stressed. I've made good headway on the posts today.

Done about 100. It got easier as I have started keeping cut and paste answers in the word processor, so I can answer quicker.

Had to tell about 20 people off for swearing. Honestly just because there are a few problems with the service they all start swearing their heads off. Its so nasty as well.
It seems they didn't like my predecessor very much. I wonder why he is on the sick.
Finally I've got onto todays postings .. although they still keep coming. There's a flurry of them about 6 o'clock when the service gets switched on, and they just keep coming. There is a lull I've noticed about 8.30. I don't know why that is ... I'll ask someone tomorrow.
