Diary of a Internet Support Worker.

January 23 2000.
I feel like its been forever.

Full steam ahead on newsgroup duty. In fact there are three of us doing the groups today. We've had to ignore the phones this afternoon, but by 6 PM we'd caught up just about.
I can sense what replies I'm going to get to my postings. I can feel how angry these people are. I've been putting apologies in every posting (cut and paste).
The mail problem increased again today. Its actually a server which has broken completely, that has been throwing wobblies for about a week now.
God help us if the press ever find out. Thank god there are no solicitors posting in the groups. We'd be in awful trouble then.
luckily I still have an account with a different ISP, so the awful mail problem isn't affecting me anyway. Someone was shouting because they were waiting for an email confirmation about some flights to America. Fancy booking a holiday online... Some people have no sense.
Still if they're not happy with apologies then what else can we do? The engineers have been tinkering with it for at least an hour today. They've gone home now muttering something about donuts. They said they'll be back tomorrow, and we can continue with the manual fix if we want. Unlocked 7 accounts today, only another 45,000 to do. I hope they fix it tomorrow, its a bit of a chore.
Pub tonight after work. I've been invited to go drinking with this lot, I'm beginning to settle in.
