In a bit of a flap over this bird Flu

In summary the government are spending loads of money buying a drug which will prevent the worst symptoms of the bird flu. They're buying enough to give 1 in 4 of us.

Firstly as people who have the flu jab every year will know - the flu evolves and changes and they have to guess at what type of flu it'll be and pray they get it right.

We're overdue for a pandemic episode of flu.

How will they know that the bird flu they're preparing against (Costing for 14.6 million courses of anti-viral drug oseltamivir (Tamiflu) - £200m over the next two financial years) will be the one they've bought the stuff for?

Their preparations include plans to close public places. Places where we might congregate and meet together to discuss issues such as bird flu, how to avoid getting bird flu, and revolting against a government which bans us from public places.

Other measures include closing schools, banning sports matches, and encouraging people to avoid crowds will be helpful.

The governments aim may be well intentioned but this bird flu would be possible to stop once it is starting to spread by doing what we did last time. Closing all air travel. Hospitalising people with symptoms, barring people from other countrys, culling chickens in infected countrys.
